Based in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood and serving Chicago’s Ukrainian American population, the Selfreliance Association is the central coordination hub for Ukrainians arriving in the Chicago metropolitan area after fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Selfrelliance Association helps Ukrainians to navigate the services offered by an array of Ukrainian churches and service organizations, social clubs, and immigrant-serving entities. It also assists Ukrainians in accessing public benefits, where available, and legal representation for their claims of humanitarian protection under U.S. immigration law. With this award for general operating support, the Selfreliance Association assists both the Ukrainians fleeing the war in their nation and the American sponsors welcoming them to Chicago.
