The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) is an independent think tank engaged in cutting edge defense and security research. RUSI’S Proliferation and Nuclear Policy program provides detailed analysis and in-depth research relating to contemporary international dynamics. This general operating grant for the program includes a focus on topics such as the future of deterrence and arms control; reducing tension between Ban Treaty proponents and opponents; and rapid response to emerging nuclear issues. Intended outcomes are an enhanced quality of public debate and better public policy outcomes on nuclear issues, in pursuit of a safer and more secure world.

This grant would support its project titled “China’s Eurasian Pivot.” The project examines evolving relations between China and Central Asia, and assesses how far a significant reordering of China’s geostrategic relationships with the region is now under way. The study aims to produce a fuller understanding of how the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan might impact China’s strategic calculus in the region. Funds will be used for partial staff salaries, research travel in the region, publications, and roundtables.
