$35,000

The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is a private nonprofit college whose mission is to educate its students and the public in the creation and appreciation of works of art and design, to discover and transmit knowledge, and to make lasting contributions to a global society through critical thinking, scholarship, and innovation. The award supports RISD to lead the co-creation of a partnership between it, N Square, and the Nuclear Threat Initiative as they begin work on an ambitious project - Horizon 2045. Horizon 2045 aims to bring a fresh approach to the entrenched problem of nuclear weapons as guarantors of global security. The outcome is a shared understanding of the process of collaboration among this unconventional blend of experts on Horizon 2045, which will increase the likelihood of the project’s success.

$115,000

Rhode Island School of Design’s mission, through its college and museum, is to educate its students and the public in the creation and appreciation of works of art and design, to discover and transmit knowledge and to make lasting contributions to a global society through critical thinking, scholarship, and innovation. The grant supports two global security fellows for 10 months to create design products that help communicate aspects of nuclear risks. The intended outcome is to create new knowledge, platforms, or concepts that might contribute to the work of experts focused on nuclear threat reduction, and to test the viability of the Global Security Fellowship model.
