Redress Trust

REDRESS has more than twenty years’ experience supporting victims’ efforts to access justice for mass atrocity crimes. Its work has helped to strengthen national, regional and international legal standards on victims’ rights and to give these standards practical relevance. The award seeks to bring justice to victims in the target countries of Central African Republic (CAR), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya and Uganda, and to foster national justice processes that are reflective of and responsive to victims’ rights. Award activities include work with national governments to ensure transitional justice policies are victim-centered; strategic litigation on mass atrocities before domestic, regional and international courts; and support for transitional justice efforts by regional and sub-regional institutions. Outcomes include strengthened national, regional and sub-regional policies on justice and accountability; and improved access to redress and reparations for victims.

The grant will support REDRESS as it promotes victims’ access to justice in the aftermath of atrocity crimes, particularly in Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kenya.

To support security upgrades, communications system improvements, and contributions to an operating reserve (over two years).

To strengthen victims' interaction with the International Criminal Court (over three years).

In support of a program to strengthen victims' participation in proceedings of the International Criminal Court (over three years).
