Population Foundation of India

Established in 1970, the Population Foundation of India (PFI) is a one of the largest Indian health NGOs.  It is dedicated to promoting effective formulation and implementation of gender sensitive population, health, and development policies, and capacity building at the national, state, and district levels. With this award, PFI is implementing and testing a model to strengthen the effectiveness of facility-based Patient Welfare Committees as an accountability mechanism for improving the delivery of maternal health services in public health facilities. The project results are being compared with health outcomes in non-intervention facilities, and the findings disseminated to advocate for scaling up the model.
