Pimachiowin Aki Corporation

The Pimachiowin Aki Corporation is a non-profit organization comprised of five First Nation communities and the Manitoba and Ontario provincial governments. The Pimachiowin Aki boreal forest comprises over 40,000 km2 of the traditional lands of these First Nations communities and several provincial parks in Manitoba and Ontario. The Pimachiowin Aki Corporation is currently seeking World Heritage Site status in order to ensure the land is internationally recognized and prioritized for protection. This grant provides a designated contribution to the Winnipeg Foundation endowment, and supports organizational development for the five First Nations partners who will manage the Pimachiowin Aki World Heritage Site.
