Established in 2017, the Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA) is a national movement that promotes electoral governance and strengthens citizen engagement to demand transparency and accountability. This award is part of a package of three electoral reform grants to PAACA, Women's Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), and Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC). WRAPA mobilizes women’s groups to participate and advocate for accountable electoral reform. Using PLAC’s analysis of past electoral reforms, PAACA focuses on public education. PAACA convenes high-level meetings of key stakeholders, including young people, on electoral accountability and reform; carries out general and civic education visits to communities, including meetings with religious leaders and traditional rulers; and organizes interactive radio and in-person town hall meetings. PAACA fosters information sharing and peer learning through exchange visits to two West African countries that will have elections in 2024. PAACA disseminates the project's outcomes through policy roundtables, newsletters, policy briefs, and social media engagement with critical stakeholders. Lastly, PAACA works with two technical advisors experienced in electoral reform and accountability in implementing this project. Ultimately, the project contributes to improved electoral and political systems that lay the foundation for accountability, transparency, and anti-corruption.
