OYA Media is a multimedia investigative platform founded in 2018 by the award-winning journalist, TV personality, and social critic Funmi Iyanda. With the previous award, OYA used its investigative talk show, The Public Eye, to engage with policymakers and enable citizens to voice their service delivery needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. OYA monitored and reported on the commitments that policymakers made on the show, thus building trust between the government and communities. With this award, OYA builds on the learnings from the work supported by a previous award to research, script, produce, and monitor episodes of Public Eye that bring duty bearers and communities together to discuss policy commitments. It also carries out its “Fix Nigeria” forum, which tours the country and engages local policymakers on accountability issues that matter to their communities. The award contributes to On Nigeria's goal of reducing corruption and strengthening accountability, transparency, and participation.
OYA Media is a multimedia investigative platform founded in 2018 by the award-winning journalist, TV personality, and social critic Funmi Iyanda. OYA publishes investigative stories using African pop culture narratives. With this award, OYA publishes investigative reports and amplifies stories by Foundation grantees. OYA presents them on an interactive talk-show platform that brings high-level policymakers and citizens together to discuss issues and share possible solutions. OYA tracks and follows up on commitments made during the show. OYA travels across Nigerian communities to showcase its investigative findings and hold townhall forums that are then adapted to air across social media, radio, and television platforms. OYA is collaborating with other Foundation grantees to implement the project to reduce corruption and strengthen accountability.
