The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), established in 1946, is an independent humanitarian NGO that provides assistance, protection, and durable solutions to refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide. NRC supports the Advisory Committee to the Platform on Disaster Displacement, a state-led consultative process intended to improve protections for people displaced across international borders by natural disasters, including the effects of climate change. The Platform on Disaster Displacement is the successor organization to the Nansen Initiative, which produced a framework to guide governments, intergovernmental organizations, and civil society organizations in protecting this category of displaced persons. The Platform now seeks to implement the framework via technical assistance and strategic advice to nations providing humanitarian assistance, disaster risk reduction, refugee protection, and other forms of aid to migrants affected by disasters or climate change. Funds support annual workshops of the Advisory Committee in Geneva, Switzerland, and subsidize the travel to Geneva of Advisory Committee members and civil society participants.
This grant provides support for civil society participation in the Nansen Initiative (www.nanseninitiative.org), an intergovernmental consultative process aimed at improving protections for international migrants affected by natural disasters, including the effects of climate change. The grant funds will be used for salary, travel, accommodation, and meeting costs associated with civil society participation in the Nansen Initiative and its component regional and global consultations.
