OTV is a web TV platform for intersectional pilots and series that supports Chicago artists in producing and exhibiting indie video series. It was launched four years ago as a project of Northwestern University Communications Professor Aymar Jean Christian. It showcases the work and stories of artists who identify with multiple identities marginalized by the market and society, such as Emmy-nominated Brown Girls about two young women of color living and working in Chicago. This grant supports OTV to plan for the next phase of its development, which includes transitioning into an independent 501c3 and exploring opportunities for revenue generating programs and services that will contribute to its long-term sustainability. As an emerging storytelling platform for diverse voices in Chicago, OTV is an important (and potentially very influential) contributor to a Chicago media ecosystem that serves and reflects the full range of experiences and values of Chicago residents.
