Established in 2011, the George J. Kostas Research Institute for Homeland Security at Northeastern University aims to undertake collaborative, policy-relevant research to advance security resilience in the United States. This grant will address the private sector’s role in underpinning the global supply chain, which government has largely excluded from its efforts to prevent the trade in dual-use materials for weapons purposes. The work will draw on industry expertise to identify how new procedures and technologies might be harnessed to enhance global supply chain transparency and security. Funds will be used for partial staff salaries, travel, conferences, honoraria, and publication costs.
