This three-year grant of $300,000 to Committee Against Torture will support a project to strengthen access to justice and the observance of fundamental human rights in Russia. The grantee, the internationally acclaimed Committee Against Torture, is located in Nizhny Novgorod about 250 miles east of Moscow and is one of Russia’s leading human rights organizations. Project activities will include strategic litigation to improve law enforcement practice; publicizing good practice; providing training for judges, prosecutors, and lawyers; and raising public awareness. Foundation dollars are to be spent on salaries for project staff and lawyers’ fees, training seminars, publications, transportation, and equipment.
