The Nigerian Bar Association is a nonprofit, professional association of lawyers admitted to the bar in Nigeria. It has a membership of about 105,400 lawyers who are active in 125 branches across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The Bar Association promotes and protects human rights, the rule of law, and good governance. With this award, it is improving the administration of criminal justice by promoting and supporting widespread adoption and implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act in 29 states, spread across all six geopolitical zones. Specific project activities include advocacy campaigns, drafting of customized model laws, and technical support to state governments in preparation for adoption.
