Grants

2019 ( 2 months)
$5,500

The National Trust for Historic Preservation (National Trust) is a privately funded organization that protects significant places representing America’s diverse cultural experience. It promotes its network of 27 historic sites located throughout the United States, identifies endangered historic places and raises money in partnership with local communities to preserve important sites, and advocates for adaptive reuse of existing building stock. In response to growing concerns in American cities about housing affordability and displacement of locally owned businesses, the National Trust’s Research and Policy Lab launched a research initiative in ten American cities that examined the role of older and historic buildings in supporting neighborhoods that are livable, affordable, and inclusive. With this award, the National Trust holds a convening in Chicago, one of its case study cities, to share its initial research findings, get feedback from local stakeholders, and inform its policy recommendations.
