The National Human Rights Commission is Nigeria’s national human rights body established to deal with all matters relating to the promotion and protection of human rights, investigation of alleged human rights violations, and enforcement of decisions of the Commission’s Governing Council. The award supports work to document and expose human rights violations related to hate speech and election violence and hold perpetrators to account. The activities include (a) public hearings on hate speech acts; (b) documentation and dissemination of the findings of public hearings; and (c) holding perpetrators of hate speech acts accountable.
To host a meeting of the Network of National Human Rights Institutions of Africa and National Human Rights Institutions of West Africa.
To build the capacity to implement the National Action Plan for the promotion and protection of human rights and to document and report on human rights violations in Nigeria (over three years).
To implement the National Action Plan for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Nigeria (over two years).
