The National Association of Black Journalists is the largest and oldest of the nation’s professional training and advocacy organizations for journalists of color, representing approximately 4,400 members. NABJ is dedicated to advocating on behalf of Black journalists, media-related professionals, and students worldwide. The NABJ National Convention will be held in Chicago in late July of 2024. The more than 4,700 convention attendees are comprised of journalism students, educators, Black journalists, and other media professionals who come together for professional development, training, top-rated speakers, and networking events.

The National Black Journalists Association (NABJ) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for Black journalists and the necessity of diverse leadership and perspectives in journalism. It also works to counteract harmful patterns and practices in the media industry that stereotype and marginalize Black communities. This grant supports NABJ’s general operations, and the intended outcomes include a more robust set of network building, training, and mentorship opportunities for Black journalists, helping contribute to more accurate reporting about pressing issues.
The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is a membership organization that serves and promotes the interests of Black journalists and media professionals. Its membership includes journalists, educators, students, and media-related professionals in the United States and worldwide. This general support grant provides funding for NABJ’s national programming, which is intended to support the career development and advancement of Black journalists, showcase and amplify the work of its members, and hold the journalism industry accountable for addressing systemic racism in its practices and culture. The goal of this work is to promote greater equity and inclusion for Black journalists in the news industry, and ultimately, more accurate representations and reporting about and for the Black community.
