Established in 1922, the Morton Arboretum (the Arboretum) is a private, tree-focused, botanical garden and pioneer in tree science and education. The Arboretum’s mission is to advance the planting and conservation of trees locally and globally to benefit people, communities, and the environment in the face of ongoing challenges. Its grounds and facilities include 1,700 acres of trees, plants, gardens and restored areas, including the largest tallgrass prairie in the Chicago suburban region. It also includes hiking and bicycling trails, a library, an herbarium, and a research building. Celebrating its centennial in 2022, the Morton Arboretum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition for a museum.
