The Media Law Resource Center is a nonprofit membership organization for media attorneys that work on media and content laws and policies. The MLRC Institute sponsors and supports First Amendment education and research projects. This grant supports six legal workshops around the country for independent and freelance reporters, photographers, and bloggers who work without institutional legal protections or readily available or affordable legal advice. The workshops, taught by volunteer MLRC members, are intended to provide essential training on free press rights, increase awareness about obstacles reporters face, offer advice on how to respond to legal intimidation or harrassment, and introduce available resources such as insurance and pro bono assistance.
