Established in 2018, Live Free Chicago is the local affiliate of Live Free USA. Live Free is a national coalition of faith-based leaders focused on reducing gun violence and mass incarceration. In addition to these national priorities, Live Free Chicago centers its local work on police accountability and, in 2020 and 2021, COVID-19 pandemic response. In partnership with the University of Chicago Crime Lab and the Illinois Council Against Hand Gun Violence, Live Free Chicago hosts a convening to highlight the issue of gun violence as a public health crisis. This award enables Live Free Chicago to convene its partners, along with public health professionals, to develop a framework for tackling gun violence from a public health perspective.
