Indiana University is a public research university where innovation, creativity, and academic freedom are hallmarks of their world-class contributions in research and the arts. The Symposium on Muslim Philanthropy & Civil Society is organized by the Muslim Philanthropy Initiative (MPI) at Indiana University. The Symposium seeks to inform and collect empirical research papers on the practice of zakāt around the world for publication in a special issue of the Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society on Muslim Philanthropy in Nigeria. This X-Grant supports the Symposium held in Nigeria, which will advance debate and discussion about the contemporary practice of zakāt in Africa.
