Established in 2006 as a nonprofit in Nigeria, Legal Awareness for Nigerian Women (LANW) promotes the rights of women and transparency and accountability in Nigeria. It was the coordinating organization for the Concerned Nigerian Civil Society, a network of non-governmental organizations promoting civic engagement in Kaduna State. With the previous award, LANW trained community monitors to track Universal Basic Education (UBE) funds in schools and members of the media to accurately report on the program. With this final award, LANW is training a community network of advocates who can demand accountability from local authorities. The project is expected to strengthen local accountability processes.
