Founded in 1988, Latino Policy Forum builds the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community in Chicago and the State of Illinois through collective action. The organization works through a model called “acuerdo,” the Spanish language term for “agreement,” in which approximately 100 community-based organizations participate in defining the organization’s agenda. As a result of the acuerdo process, Latino Policy Forum focuses on four issue areas: education, housing, immigration, and leadership development. This award supports the Latino Policy Forum’s general operations while it undergoes an executive leadership transition.
Founded in 1988, Latino Policy Forum (LPF) builds the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community in Chicago through collective action. This award for general operating support facilitates LPF’s commitment to fostering the development of grassroots and community-based leaders. Its leadership programs build skills to inform policy, increase cross-cultural trust, and collaboratively address issues of mutual concern to Chicagoans. Through its Multicultural Leadership Academy, LPF creates a diverse network of highly engaged civic leaders. LPF also works through a model called “acuerdo,” the Spanish language term for “agreement,” in which approximately 100 community-based organizations participate in defining the organization’s agenda. It creates a more diverse network of civic leaders who can cooperate to improve conditions across the city of Chicago throughout their careers.
