Just Roots provides access to local, sustainably grown food, with farms located in predominantly low-income and traditionally marginalized communities that lack affordable access to fresh, healthy, culturally relevant food. The majority of its work is based on Chicago’s South Side and in the South Suburbs. Just Roots advances social justice and addresses food scarcity by providing organically grown, healthy, and culturally relevant food at scale. Communities may access Just Roots’ produce directly or through food pantries, mutual aid organizations, and housing developments at a reduced or no cost. Just Roots also facilitates educational programs that equip residents with the skills and resources to grow their own food. This Annual staff Award provides general operating support to Just Roots.
