Just Climate - Climate Assets Fund I

Climate Assets Fund I is the first investment vehicle from Generation Investment Management’s new independent subsidiary, Just Climate LP, an investment firm based in London and dedicated to climateled investing. The Fund seeks to help limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees by catalyzing and scaling the most impactful climate solutions, aiming to provide capital that can unlock further investment by de-risking a solution, reducing the solution’s cost, or reducing the cost of capital. More specifically, the Fund has identified three specific contexts for deploying this type of capital: first-of-akind projects, typically scaling solutions from the pilot phase; solution scale-up, driving economies of scale to commercial parity with high carbon alternatives; and regulatory and carbon market uncertainties, transitioning businesses through a period of evolving regulation and maturing carbon markets. Further, the team prioritizes timely climate impact, optimizing for expected climate change mitigation in the next decade, while also only investing in solutions and projects that are consistent with a Just Transition, meaning that the climate action is inclusive, equitable, and accounts for distributional consequences such that vulnerable or historically marginalized populations are not disproportionately disadvantaged.
