Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI) was established in 2009 to promote equality and protect women’s human rights. The award supports the expansion of legal clinics established in the previous funding cycle and skills development programs for women’s legal and economic empowerment. Specific activities include legal education classes; advocacy for establishment of a state-wide framework for the paralegal profession; and linking women to governmental economic empowerment institutions.
The grant to Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI) will promote the human rights of women and restore their dignity, especially in rural areas where access to justice and protection of women’s rights are difficult. The grantee will provide legal advice, organize literacy classes for women, train women in vocational skills, and provide beneficiaries with start-up capital from other sources to set up small businesses.
