Founded in 1958, the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a leading authority on global security, political risk and military conflict. This project addresses the risk that an increased reliance on seaborne energy trade in Asia will exacerbate naval tensions. Through analytic research, interviews and workshops, the project quantifies energy security risks, examines the agreements regulating sea-lane security in Asia, and explores cooperative arrangements to help manage the security implications of Asia’s deepening reliance on seaborne energy trade.
