This grant to the International Center for Research on Women will support the implementation and evaluation of an integrated safe space program for adolescent girls that aims to promote greater agency among girls, challenge child marriage practices, and support girls’ in making informed and responsible decisions to achieve improved maternal and reproductive health outcomes.
The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) in collaboration with the Magic Bus Foundation will adapt and test an in-school model designed to prepare girls for employment after completing secondary school. The model, which includes an in-school curriculum and engagement with industry and prospective employers, will be tested in 10 government girls’ secondary schools in Delhi. The effectiveness of the model will be evaluated using a randomized controlled trial.
The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) is a US-based non-profit organization whose mission is to empower women, advance gender equality and fight poverty in the developing world. The goal of this grant is to enhance the participation and continuation of vulnerable adolescent girls in secondary schools in post-conflict Northern Uganda. ICRW will work closely with Forum for African Women Educationalists, Uganda to conduct research that aims to: 1) Provide a deeper understanding of the relationship between pregnancy and school dropout among girls in two districts in the West Nile Province of Northern Uganda 2) Identify the gendered social norms and expectations related to reproduction and family formation that influence girls' secondary school enrollment, retention and completion in the West Nile Province.
To scale-up a project to implement a gender and sexual and reproductive health program in schools in Mumbai, India (over three years).
To conduct a comparative analysis and disseminate the multi-country study on men and reproductive health.
To implement, evaluate and disseminate results from pilot tests in India on a youth sexual and reproductive health initiative (over three years).
In support of strengthening the evidence base on the ways in which population and fertility are linked to poverty at the household level .
In support of strengthening the evidence base on the linkages between youth and demographic change (over thirty months).
For a project to strengthen adolescent reproductive health programs in India (over three years).
To support research and advocacy with U.S. policymakers on preventing early marriage, delaying childbearing, and improving the health of married adolescents in developing countries (over three years).
To establish a set of principles for global HIV/AIDS prevention efforts and to monitor implemenation in selected countries (over three years).
To examine the linkages among poverty, demographic shifts, and resource use, focusing on customary and formal rights to mangove resources (over three years).
