The Institute for Work and the Economy is an independent, nonprofit research collaborative focused on identifying and developing strategies and solutions to address structural challenges facing local and regional economies. The two-day “Futures of Work” convening brings together a range of stakeholders for a set of discussions on the changing nature and organization of work, how these changes are manifested, and the varying consequences faced by different groups. Through speakers, panels and workshops, it aims to move the discourse towards establishing a common framework for understanding the factors driving changes in the workplace, their consequences, and the responses necessary to address them. It also draws on the collective knowledge of participants and subject matter experts to identify areas of further inquiry and research. Finally, the convening aims to generate new policies and business practice ideas to expand the availability of work with pathways to the middle class.
