Founded in 1976, the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis (IFPA) is an independent, nonpartisan research organization specializing in national security, foreign policy, and defense planning issues. This project aims to improve U.S.-Japan-Republic of Korea trilateral cooperation in the maritime realm as a means to enhancing the overall trilateral relationship. It will assess the prospects for U.S.-Japan-Korea maritime collaboration by focusing on three facets of maritime security: crisis management in the northeast Asia maritime zone, responses to Chinese military power and maritime pressure, and out-of-area missions.
