The Indo American Center of Chicago addresses the needs of South Asian immigrants as well as people from more than thirty nations. The Indo American Center provides services that facilitate residents’ adjustment and integration, nurture a sense of community, and foster appreciation for culture and heritage. With this X-Grant, the Indo-American Center convenes residents to provide workshops on the rights of immigrants in the United States in English and in a variety of South Asian languages.
The Indo American Center (IAC) of Chicago addresses the needs of South Asian immigrants as well as people from more than thirty nations. IAC provides services that facilitate their adjustment, integration, and friendship with the wider society, nurture their sense of community, and foster appreciation for the diversity of culture and heritage. With this award, IAC convenes three of its primary client populations – adult learners of English, immigrants seeking legal assistance, and seniors – in civic engagement sessions, educating them about the opportunities and responsibilities they hold, whether U.S. citizens or not. The focused attention on these three populations will inform future civic engagement program development and expansion.
