The India Smart Grid Forum is a reputed national think tank that works in close partnership with Government of India to accelerate development of smart grid technologies through effective design of policies, standards and capacity building initiatives. The Forum partners with government, public, and private sector institutions to develop technological and economic solutions and pathways to mitigate climate change. Since the Paris Accord meetings, Indian policy makers have taken several actions to significantly raise the renewable energy generation capacity in the country – both to meet its massive energy requirements as well as to achieve the commitments made to the global community. However, use of renewable power in national electricity grids remains limited due to its intermittent nature of generation. This award supports the India Smart Grid Forum to test and evaluate options for energy storage that stabilize energy inputs and flows in the national electricity grid, forming an effective response to the intermittency problem.
