The Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) is the research and training arm of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). ACAN provides high-level training for public officers and the general public on good governance, accountability, transparency, integrity, ethics, and all issues related to corruption and corrupt practices. It also performs research and facilitates the development of knowledge-based anti-corruption policies in Nigeria. With this award, ACAN staff receive intensive norm and behavior change training and technical assistance. It uses the skills and knowledge gleaned from the trainings and technical assistance to review its existing anti-corruption curriculum to incorporate behavior and norm change approaches; implement the recently approved National Ethics and Integrity Policy with a behavioral insight lens; and provide institutionalized training to its staff and other government agencies on using behavior and norm change approaches in fighting corruption. ACAN also serves as the hub for training anti-corruption bodies and is coordinating with other Foundation grantees to implement the project.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) was established in 2000 with a mandate to educate about, prohibit, detect, investigate, and prosecute corrupt practices and related offenses. It offers protection for whistleblowers, educates, and enlightens the public about corruption and related offenses with a view to enlisting and fostering public support for the fight against corruption. The Commission is repositioning itself by strengthening the capacity of its staff, the Office of the Chair, and the Commission’s research and teaching academy; developing anti-corruption measures linked to e-Government standards; enforcing audit results of government ministries and departments to improve budget transparency and accountability; and providing continuous support to the office of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC).
