Founded in 1993, Hyde Park School of Dance (HPSD) teaches a wide range of dance styles – such as ballet, jazz, and hip-hop – to students of all ages through workshops and classes, many offered with tuition assistance. In partnership with schools on Chicago’s South Side, HPSD brings its programs tuition-free to nearly 200 students who would otherwise lack access to quality dance education. The school also offers discounted rent and free marketing to resident dancers and dance companies, including the South Chicago Dance Theatre, which add to the cultural diversity of HPSD’s programs. This award provides general operating support to HPSD as part of the Foundation’s Culture, Equity, and the Arts program.
