Human Rights Defense Center

The Human Rights Defense Center is a nonprofit organization that campaigns on behalf of prisoner rights across the United States. It is the parent organization of Prison Legal News, a monthly publication that covers litigation and other criminal justice news written by and for incarcerated people. This grant provides support for the printing and distribution of an additional 1600 copies of COVID-related Prison Legal News issues over the next six months that will be distributed for free to incarcerated people and their families. These issues provide important information to incarcerated people who have limited access to news from the outside about the threats associated with COVID-19 and their right to adequate health and safety resources and standards.
