Chicago, Illinois

Grants

2021 ( 8 months)
$25,000

Chartered in 1973, the mission of the Historic Pullman Foundation is to: 1) facilitate the preservation and restoration of original structures within the Pullman community on Chicago's South Side and; 2) promote awareness of Pullman as one of the nation's first planned industrial communities. In September 2021, the Pullman National Monument officially opened. The Monument visitor center hosts 300,000 visitors annually and includes educational and experiential exhibits and programming designed to engage children, the community, and visitors in learning about the importance of Pullman in Chicago and American history. The mission of the Historic Pullman Foundation has expanded to support this cultural and community asset, build upon the momentum of the neighborhood's economic growth, and develop and coordinate programming that provides opportunities for the public to experience and appreciate the Pullman story. This award enables the Historic Pullman Foundation to build its internal financial capacity as the organization evolves to meet the current moment.

$25,000

Chartered in 1973, the mission of the Historic Pullman Foundation is to: 1) facilitate the preservation and restoration of original structures within the Pullman community on Chicago's South Side and; 2) promote awareness of Pullman as one of the nation's first planned industrial communities. In 2015, President Barack Obama designated Pullman as an Historic District and the National Park Service established a visitor center in the Pullman factory’s iconic Administration Clock Tower Building. The visitor center, which was upgraded substantially between 2015 and 2021, hosts 300,000 visitors annually and includes educational and experiential exhibits and programming designed to engage children, the community, and visitors in learning about the importance of Pullman in Chicago and American history. This award enables the Historic Pullman Foundation, in collaboration with the National Park Service, to convene its partners and community residents for the grand opening of the renovated visitor center in early September 2021.
