Global Rights is an international human rights capacity building organization that works with local activists and communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to promote access to justice and protect the rights of marginalized populations. The grant funds will be used to conduct an evaluation of the existing community paralegal scheme in Nigeria’s Kano and Bauchi states; facilitate a workshop on access to justice and paralegal service delivery in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission and Legal Aid Council; and develop, publish, and disseminate promotional materials on the availability of paralegal and referral services in both states.
In support of activities to build the capacity of human rights organizations in Kano state to monitor, document, and report on human rights violations.
To reduce maternal mortality and morbidity by promoting the right to bodily integrity and by advocating policies to eliminate violence against women (over three years).
To build a legal framework for the protection of human rights in Nigeria (over three years).
To strengthen African civil society, focusing on human rights and pro-democracy efforts (over three years).
To support training and technical support for human rights organizations in developing countries and emerging democracies (over two years).
