The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) serves as an international hub for the world’s investigative reporters. With over 250 member nonprofits in 95 countries, the GIJN builds and strengthens the global infrastructure supporting investigative journalism by providing journalists with the tools, technology, and training to go after abuses of power and lack of accountability. This award supports Nigerian journalists’ travel expenses to attend the bi-annual Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) in Kuala Lumpur in November 2025, along with related activities for investigative journalists from the country, such as serving as expert panelists and attending networking events. The conference provides opportunities for sponsored journalists to learn about the latest tools, collaborate, and gain inspiration that can enhance coverage of corruption and accountability in their communities. Together, these professionals will learn about the latest forensic tools, find partners for collaboration, and learn from colleagues around the world. The support is part of On Nigeria’s effort to strengthen the role of investigative journalism in anti-corruption and accountability through capacity building for Nigerian media practitioners.

The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) is the premier international association for investigative journalists. With 145 member organizations in 62 countries and tens of thousands of followers worldwide, GIJN builds and strengthens the global infrastructure supporting investigative journalism. This award supports travel for up to 27 Nigerian investigative journalists to attend the bi-annual Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) in South Africa in November. As a result of attending the conference we expect the sponsored journalists to utilize the connections, skills, and ideas they glean from the conference to cover issues relevant to their communities, including corruption and lack of accountability.
