Futuro Media Group (Futuro) is an independent nonprofit organization producing multimedia journalism focused on contemporary social issues, told from perspectives that are underrepresented in the U.S. media environment. Futuro produces Peabody Award-winning Latino USA, public radio’s longest-running national Latino news and cultural weekly radio program; In The Thick, a politics podcast from the perspective of journalists of color; and Latino Rebels, a pioneering digital news outlet that reaches millions through its website, radio programming, and podcasts. Futuro Unidad Hinojosa Investigative (FUHi), its newest unit, aims to train a new generation of Latinx and reporters of color to pursue rigorous investigative reporting. This award supports the general operations of Futuro Media Group. The intended outcome is deep and nuanced reporting that helps Americans understand critical issues facing the United States and the world.
The Futuro Media Group (Futuro) is an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces multimedia journalism focused on contemporary social issues, told from perspectives that are underrepresented in the U.S. media environment. Futuro produces the weekly Latino USA, an English language audio magazine show about issues facing Latinx communities and communities of color in the United States distributed by National Public Radio (NPR); In the Thick, a weekly politics podcast featuring journalists, advocates, and politicians of color; and, since 2018, has produced and distributed the news and commentary website Latino Rebels and Latino Rebels Radio. This award supports general operations of the Futuro Media Group, with the intended outcome that the organization is better able to pursue stories and investigations in a flexible and independent manner that provide context, nuance, and insight into critical issues facing the United States and the world.
The Futuro Media Group (Futuro) is a nonprofit newsroom founded by journalist Maria Hinojosa in 2010 and based in Harlem, New York. It produces the biweekly Latino USA, an audio magazine show distributed by NPR about issues affecting Latino communities and communities of color in the United States, and In the Thick, a weekly politics podcast featuring journalists, advocates, and politicians of color. With its majority nonwhite newsroom, Futuro is working to strengthen its capacity to conduct in-depth investigative reporting and work more dynamically across multiple media platforms. Futuro reports deeply on immigration. With this project grant, Futuro is reporting extensively on the mass detention of immigrants and the consequences of United States government policy to separate immigrant families arrested at the border. The outcome will be greater understanding by the U.S. public of the context of this crisis and its implications.

The outcome is multimedia stories that create greater understanding of the complexity of current events and their impacts on individuals and communities.
The Futuro Media Group (Futuro) is a nonprofit journalism organization that produces news, public affairs and cultural programming designed to tell underreported stories that illuminate the growing ethnic and racial diversity of the U.S. population. Futuro produces the weekly radio show Latino USA, heard on NPR stations around the country and online, and the PBS documentary series America By The Numbers. To reach new audiences, Futuro has expanded to produce podcasts and short-form digital videos, distributed directly and in partnership with other news organizations. General operating support from the MacArthur Foundation allows Futuro to make critical investments in infrastructure that enhance its ability to report across a range of media, while also providing it with the flexibility to respond quickly to opportunities to produce stories about important issues as they unfold.

Futuro produces "Latino USA," a weekly public radio program heard on NPR, which offers a mix of in-depth explanatory reporting, on-the-ground coverage of timely issues, and first-person commentary, with a focus on current and emerging issues that affect the United States’ growing and increasingly diverse Latino communities. The documentary journalism series "America by the Numbers" will premiere in 2014 on PBS and WORLD Channel, which uses data about the changing demographics of the United States as the catalyst to explore underreported issues faced by communities of color.
Latino USA is a radio program produced by the Futuro Media Group and heard weekly on NPR stations. The program offers a mix of in-depth explanatory reporting, on-the-ground coverage of timely issues, and diverse commentary, with a focus on current and emerging issues that affect the U.S.’ growing and increasingly diverse Latino communities. Each week the show explores topics related to democracy and political participation, economics, education, immigration, health, culture, and current events in Latin America. This grant will support the costs associated with the research and production of Latino USA.
