Fundacion para la Justicia y el Estado Democratico de Derecho or Foundation for Justice works to advance access to justice for victims of crime and human rights abuses through legal actions, research, advocacy and communications. The award enables Foundation for Justice to deploy a legal strategy that encompasses filing legal remedies to protect migrant populations at risk during the covid-19 pandemic, as well as lawsuits both in the court system and with the national human rights commission to hold the government accountable for providing the necessary protection and care for the migrant population in Mexico.

The project contributes to the implementation of Mexico’s National Prosecutor’s Office, through development of technical proposals for operational procedures and a Strategic Criminal Prosecution Policy Plan, dialogue with government officials, and victims’ legal representation. It also helps Fundación para la Justicia continue its leading role in a civil society coalition working to ensure the new Prosecutor’s Office contributes to reducing impunity.

Fundación para la Justicia (Foundation for Justice) works to improve access to justice for victims of crimes and human rights abuses through case litigation, research, and policy advocacy. The grant supports a regional meeting on the role of prosecutors in investigating crimes in Latin America. The meeting’s goal is to leverage the weight that international attention has on Mexico’s government and pave the way for policy makers to include civil society’s proposals in the design and implementation of the new Prosecutor’s Office that is expected to replace Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office in 2018.

The project promotes improved investigative practices in cases of disappearances and homicides committed against vulnerable persons. It supports advocacy actions aimed at improving investigative agencies’ accountability as well as transparency in investigation proceedings.
Fundacion para la Justicia y el Estado Democratico de Derecho (Foundation for Justice) is a Mexican organization created to assist victims of crime and human rights abuses in accessing justice. The award supports Foundation for Justice's advocacy work on behalf of the families of Central American migrants who went missing or were murdered in their transit through Mexico, as well as its efforts to effect policy changes to improve access to Mexico's justice system. The project also contributes to justice and redress for the victims of three high-profile migrant massacres that occurred between 2010 and 2011 in northern Mexico.
Fundación para la Justicia y el Estado Democrático de Derecho (“Foundation for Justice”) will create a regional network with organizations in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to improve transit migrants’ access to justice. The network will engage government authorities and civil society advocates to facilitate reporting of crimes and human rights abuses, regardless of the victim´s nationality or location at the time of the violation. The grant will strengthen civil society’s capability to monitor the prevention of migrants’ rights violations in Mexico through the creation of the first comprehensive transnational archive of rights violations and crimes against migrants, and will support litigation on two high-profile cases in northern Mexico: the 2010 massacre of 72 migrants in Tamaulipas, and the 2011 discovery of mass graves.
