Established in 2014, the mission of Full Spectrum Features (FSF) is to drive equity in the independent film industry by producing, exhibiting, and supporting the work of women, people of color, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ filmmakers. The company’s catalog of fictional narrative films includes full-length features, short films, and a web series. Production highlights include The Orange Story, an original cinematic project that explores the legacy of the incarceration of Japanese American citizens during World War II and the history of Japanese American resettlement to the Chicago area. Its short film festival, Chicagoland Shorts, highlights Chicago-based filmmakers and provides an outlet for the cinematic voices of historically marginalized filmmakers and communities. Its Community Storytellers program features the personal stories of North and South Lawndale residents in short fictional films. This award provides general operating support to FSF in the Culture, Equity, and the Arts area of the Chicago Commitment strategy.
Full Spectrum Features is committed to increasing diversity in the independent film industry by producing, exhibiting, and supporting the work of women, LGBTQ, and minority filmmakers. The company educates the public about social and cultural issues, utilizing the power of cinema to foster understanding in communities. With this International Connections Fund award, Chicago-based Full Spectrum Features conducts a cultural exchange with an organization based in Mexico that archives, restores, and exhibits independent Mexican films.
