Forum for the Future US (Forum) is a subsidiary of the international non-profit, Forum for the Future. Established in 1996, Forum works in partnership with business, governments, and civil society to accelerate the shift toward a sustainable future. Forum has worked in India for more than a decade with a focus on developing pathways to systems change in the field of energy transition and corporate climate action. This award enables Forum to collaborate with a consortium of nonprofit institutions to engage with renewable energy (RE) companies, investors, and procurers of energy to adopt business models that create value chains that are ecologically safe and socially just. The initiative, called Responsible Energy Initiative (REI), establishes a systemic understanding of implications of inaction and barriers to incorporating sound environmental, social and governance (ESG) values within the RE value chains in India. It identifies ways to transform business models around sound ESG values and concludes by supporting pilot interventions that demonstrate a real shift in ways of doing business by RE companies as well as investment flows based on such values. REI features several pilot projects, including catalytic interventions, to accelerate responsible renewable energy and foster a wider learning ecosystem between pilot project teams.

Forum for the Future US (Forum) is a subsidiary of the international nonprofit, Forum for the Future. Established in 1996, Forum works in partnership with business, governments and civil society to accelerate the shift toward a sustainable future. Forum has worked in India for almost a decade now, partnering with many of the Foundation’s grantees developing collective pathways to systems change in the field of energy transition and corporate climate action. During these stressful COVID times, this award enables the Forum to facilitate an unbiased and participatory process to develop future trajectories for Indian nonprofits engaged in climate change mitigation, build resilience, and amplify collective impact. The award supports collective inquiry into a post-COVID world by seeking answers to questions related to future risks, opportunities, collective action, and resilience building. The shared sense of direction, identification of common challenges and ways in which they may be addressed collectively is enabling progress on climate mitigation, a just transition, and resilience-building in these unsettled times.
