European Digital Rights (EDRi) is a network of civil society organizations that defend rights and freedoms online. It does so by advocating for robust and enforced laws, informing and mobilizing people, promoting a healthy and accountable technology market, and building a movement of organizations and individuals committed to digital rights and freedoms in a connected world. Through its membership base of dozens of organizations across Europe, EDRi works to inform and enforce laws and policies in three main areas: (1) Technology and Society, which is primarily focused on the governance of artificial intelligence; (2) Platforms and Big Tech Power, which is focused on enforcement of European Union law seeking to regulate digital platforms; and (3) State Surveillance, an area that is focused on advancing secure and safe digital networks, communications and devices (including combating spyware), and contesting biometric mass surveillance. The award provides general operating support to EDRi.
