A renewal grant is recommended to the Earth Institute at Columbia University, in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Millennium Village Project (MVP), to scale up the use of misoprostol to prevent postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) in hard-to-reach communities in Ghana where there is a high rate of deliveries at home, with limited skilled health personnel. In addition, the model and lessons learned will be shared with stakeholders in Nigeria.
To support the Master's in Development Practice Secretariat (over 21 months).
To incorporate sexual and reproductive health into African national development strategies and the Millennium Villages, and to scale up misoprostol use (over two years).
To support a pilot project to address postpartum hemorrhage at the community level in the Bonsaaso, Ghana Millennium Village (over 27 months).
To create a Masters in Development Practice Global Secretariat and offer a Masters in Development Practice degree program, through Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (over three years).
In support of the International Commission on Education for Development Professionals.
