$350,000

The Coalition for Green Capital is a nonprofit that seeks to accelerate investment in clean energy technologies through support for green bank finance institutions. Green banks are a proven public and philanthropic finance model to mobilize private investment in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other decarbonization technologies. The organization’s primary focus for the last two years has been the creation of a national green bank, playing the leading role in what has emerged from this work as the Clean Energy and Sustainability Accelerator within the American Jobs Plan. The Coalition for Green Capital and its partners are engaging extensively with this effort by: a) providing technical support, including preparing local leaders to receive funds; b) playing a leading role in the development of technical recommendations around the specific requirement that 40 percent of funds are deployed for environmental justice purposes; and c) working with local leaders from coal-based communities, as well as regulatory experts, to develop economic development opportunities in these communities that are experiencing economic dislocation related to the energy transition. This award in support of general operations ensures that the Coalition for Green Capital is fully funded during this critical potential inflection point for the green banking movement, and that the organization is resourced effectively to support the development of an approach that does not leave behind historically marginalized communities in the energy transition.
