Founded in 1999, Clinard Dance combines a range of artistic disciplines and cultural backgrounds to create a distinctive contemporary American flamenco dance style. With this award, Clinard travels to Spain to learn a new dance style to teach at their school in Chicago’s Pilsen community.
Clinard Dance, a contemporary flamenco dance company, has produced seven original evening-length performances as well as several smaller choreographic pieces. Its Flamenco Quartet Project draws from a range of cultural influences including Gypsy jazz, klezmer music, classical Arabic, and traditional Spanish dance forms. With this International Connections Fund award, Chicago-based Clinard Dance collaborates with a flamenco dance company from Madrid, Spain to create an original dance theater performance with youth from Spain and senior citizens from Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood as participants.
In support of an exchange between artistic directors from Clinard and a contemporary dance company in India. Two new dance pieces, one for each company, will be created.
