Established in 1982, the Chicago Children’s Museum’s mission is to improve children’s lives by creating a community where play and learning connect. The Chicago Children’s Museum (CCM) is a national leader in developing play-based experiences that engage children and their families in creative, collaborative learning. Housed in Navy Pier, CCM offers three floors of activities and programming, including permanent and rotating exhibits and interactive workshops for families, educators, and community members. CCM’s work includes programming created for children with incarcerated parents and/or with disabilities, as well as for LGBTQ+ families. CCM partners with local artists, performers, and cultural organizations to expose teachers, parents, and caregivers to the vital role the arts play in children’s healthy emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development, specifically from birth to age ten. This award provides general operating support to the CCM as part of the Foundation's Civic Partnerships program.
