CEOs for Cities, a long-time Foundation grantee whose mission and activities no longer advance a specific grantmaking strategy, is at a critical moment in which it is exploring its future path, including adopting a new sustainable business model, merging with another organization, or winding down. It will use this short-term support so it can, with expert support, conduct an assessment of future possibilities and appropriate steps to take.
CEOs for Cities is a national and global network of public, private, non-profit, and philanthropic urban leaders. Since its founding in 2001, it has grown from a modest networking organization to an innovative center for research and urban ideas and practices designed to make cities vital and supportive of their populations. CEOs for Cities changed leadership in 2011, and it will use this grant to undertake a strategic planning exercise, diversify funders, and assess current programs to determine which to end and which to strengthen and continue, and to help defray the costs of its 2011 annual meeting.
