Centro Romero is a community-based organization primarily serving refugee and immigrant populations on the Northeast Side of Chicago. Its interrelated programs include arts; adult education; immigrant legal services; and youth leadership. Its goal is to assist disenfranchised communities of immigrants and refugees integrate into Chicago and improve their opportunities for upward social mobility. Centro Romero’s arts programming includes photography and visual arts programs centered in its Pueblo Unido Gallery. It encourages young immigrants and refugees to develop their artistic and curation skills; to co-create projects with visiting artists; and to produce inter-generational cultural programming. This award provides general operating support to Centro Romero in the Culture, Equity, and the Arts area of the Chicago Commitment strategy.
