Centro de los Derechos del Migrante (CDM) is a binational legal, education, and advocacy organization operating in the United States and Mexico that works to protect the rights of people recruited in Mexico for temporary work in the United States. The grant will help publicize and staff CDM’s on-line recruitment transparency tool Contratados.org, an online platform for migrant workers to post on-line reviews of employers and recruiters. This grant will also help CDM develop new sources of revenue, including enhanced outreach to individual donors, to help ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability. The grant funds will be used for salaries for a development professional and a human trafficking specialist, partial support for other salaries and costs of outreach and training on the use of Contratados.
The Centro de los Derechos del Migrantes (Center for Migrant Rights - CDM) is a bi-national legal, education, and advocacy organization based in the U.S. and Mexico. It works to protect the rights of low-wage, temporary, seasonal, recruited workers in every step of the migration process. MacArthur funds will support CDM’s legal and policy advocacy work, the dissemination of CDM’s interactive map and reports that document abuses in the guest worker system, as well as the development of a tool for direct, real-time communication with workers.
