Founded in 1989, the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) is a multi-disciplinary institute involved in research, policy formation, community interventions, service delivery, education, and training. Its primary goal is to use its expertise to help build reconciliation, democracy, and a human rights culture, and prevent violence in Africa. Over the last three years, CSVR has worked with the African Union Department of Political Affairs (DPA) to develop the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP), and a first-of-its-kind companion implementation plan. In this final phase of work, CSVR is collaborating with DPA to finalize the policy and implementation plan for adoption at the African Union Heads of State summit in 2017; supporting the roll-out of the implementation plan across the continent, and providing support for direct implementation of the policy at the country-level. CSVR also is  providong technical assistance to help ensure that the AUTJP is adopted and implemented by member states and AU organs in a manner that secures broad state and civil society support.
